Two stars: 'Despicable Me 3' plays it too safe, Logan Hj

I’m still quite unsure how such a colorful, wacky movie could turn out so joyless. “Despicable Me 3” is, by far, the most confused of all the “Despicable Me” movies. Even “Minions,” which was aggressively bad, knew what path it wanted to take its story in. Here there are around a dozen subplots all mashed into a movie that feels like it was cobbled together by rejected mini-movies meant for home video release.
